Being a Mama | A mini-album

I am a scrapbooker. I love to make mini albums. I haven't done as many recently...but I did do this one a while back and wanted to share it with you. I made it for by best, D. She and I met about 5 years ago and have remained extremely close despite the fact she now lives in NY.  We manage to skype scrap often and that helps. The last time I saw her was April of 2010. She was a mama of a then 3 year old and an 18 month old. I wanted to make her something I knew she would like. I wanted to make her something that her kids would like to look at for years to come. And I wanted to make it about her FOR her. So...I decided to make an album about what it's like being a mom for her. So here's the album in a nutshell. Enjoy!

Some Scraps as of late.

It's been awhile since I've posted some layouts. Here's some I've completed this week. These are challenge pages I've been doing with my far away, dear, awesome friend D. I looked back over my challenge album...and our first challenge was in July of 2009! To date we've done 122 challenges and I am quite shure that our scrap albums are much more thicker because of it.

Challenge #58: Use text layering.

Challenge #59: Use a product to inspire your text. I really liked the "celebrate" stamp. So that's what I picked. 

Challenge #60: Use an old photograph to create a vintage look.

Challenge #61: Scrap each other (Doralyn)...and this would be my favorite layout of the bunch.

Lately

I must confess that the last time I scrapbooked was in October! OCTOBER...folks.  So last week my most awesome and creative scrapbooking partner, Doralyn announced that we should begin our challenges again. We only did 2 and it took every bit of concentration for me to get back into the groove of things. The first one was to scrap something about your appearance.  I decided to do my face.

Journaling reads: I have always liked my face. My small forehead and little nose. My blue greyish eyes and normally clear skin. I like that I don't have to wear make-up, and I love my cheeky smile. Then there are my flaws...like eye brows that need to be plucked and newly formed wrinkles. My biggest thing- my double chin. I HATE it, which would explain why it's cut off in alot of pictures of me. But this is my God-given face and I am so grateful I can see, laugh, taste & smell.

The second challenge was to create a layout on a major event. I have previously done layouts on Sophia being born...but none about the first day I actually became a mom. I must confess that I teared up when I was looking back over my journal...so many emotions that day.

Journaling reads: I was a mother in my heart long before I was a mother in my arms. All along, while my heart ached so desperately for a baby, God was whispering "Not Yet". It was only so He could bring me you. Every moment with you is a gift and I will never forget that. Isaiah 61:3 says "He will give you a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair." I am so blessed with a full heart and full arms and I wouldn't change a thing.

This week we are doing 4 more challenges! Happy scrapping everyone.

scraps, skype, and smiles

my best and i have been doing scrapbooking challenges for quite awhile.  we began doing them this summer as an efforts to keep our scrapbooking current.  i confess, that mine is not as current as i would like. nonetheless it has evolved into something i look forward to everyweek. sometimes the challenges strech me and other times they are super easy.  lately, we have been "skype-scrapping".  there are days at the dinner table when i am telling anth about my day and skype-scrapping with d comes up....he smiles and says...i told you to do that a long time ago.  so huge thanks to skype for coming up with this ingenius invention so i can actually see the person i'm talking to! i love it and look forward to each time we skype.

scrappin' like mad

lately i have been scrapping alot. and i am loving it. i have forgotten how much it is my outlet for relaxing. here's some of my latest creations. enjoy!

 

more than paper and glue

it's an art and it's definitely a creative outlet.  so why am i finding it so hard to scrap the one thing that i've waited so long to scrap?  i always find an excuse, something else i could be doing...like cleaning, laundry, reading, or playing with sophia.  scrapping for me is more than paper and glue.  it's a way i express myself.  each page i create is something i've thought about...it's a reflection of me and tells a story.

so, maybe today will be that day i get over this hump and sit in my creative space and scrap. maybe.
